LONGHORN VILLAGE RECEIVES GREEN BUILDING RATING
Longhorn Village, a Continuing Care Retirement Community sponsored by the University of Texas Ex-Students Association, has received a three star rating from the Austin Energy Green Building program. In order to attain the rating, the REES team demonstrated outstanding sustainable design through responsible materials selections, landscaping choices, and construction practices.
Among Longhorn Village’s numerous sustainable features, the building envelope is constructed of durable, low maintenance materials and is insulated with recycled content thermafiber mineral wool insulation. All windows are double-paned, and each resident unit features programmable thermostats and high-efficiency Energy Star appliances. The design team maximized the preservation of existing natural landscape components and exceeded Austin Energy’s pervious paving requirements.
