The REES Atlanta office is the newest project to achieve an official certification from the US Green Building Council, garnering LEED Silver honors. Located in the artsy Midtown district, the new Atlanta office space continues to give REES a prominent Peachtree Street address adjacent to SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), the High Museum, and the Lowe Gallery.
The project team employed REES’ trademarked FACILITY BUSINESS PLAN® methodology to program, plan, and create a budget for a new office designed to accommodate REES-Atlanta’s future growth. The process incorporated an “eco-charette” to determine the feasibility of achieving LEED Silver without significantly increasing the Tenant Improvement budget.
The new space encompasses approximately 8,400 square feet and will initially accommodate up to 20 employees, with expansion capability for up to 30 staff members. Visitors to the office enter through a glass portal that extends floor to ceiling into a crisp white rotunda. Slanted walls intensify the perception of space in the small entry lobby. A gallery space featuring REES projects links the lobby to the reception area. A main boardroom and a secondary conference area are located along the sweeping glass curve of the exterior, providing attractive views to Peachtree Street and outstanding daylighting in the space. Break-out spaces are distributed throughout the design area, including a charette space and two small, private conference rooms.
Several sustainable products were utilized in the space, an interior renovation project, including reclaimed FSC wood, low VOC paints and adhesives, Cradle-2-Cradle certified workstations, task and conference chairs, reused furniture and fixtures, and a carpet tiles with recycle backing that uses adhesive squares instead of glue.
