The Clinical Research Building is the first major construction project to the Tulsa-based OU campus, since its acquisition. The building and parking structure are compatible with the existing character of campus, while incorporating architectural references to the Norman campus and using local materials, including brick and concrete.
The facility is 98,000 square feet of clinical and clinical research space for the University of Oklahoma's College of Medicine - Tulsa.
As far as sustainability is concerned, the project mainly focused on occupants of the building and the site. The occupants of the building are rewarded with an atrium that draws in natural light and distributes it throughout the interior spaces. Budget constraints prevented initial plans for a vegetated roof; however the infrastructure is in place for a time when it is practical to complete installation.
The site design included several sustainable features as well. The project is sensitive to nearby neighborhoods and sought to eliminate light pollution while still providing a safe environment for pedestrians. Site open space requirements were exceeded. The site also includes covered parking.
The building is designed to accommodate various disciplines including community outreach programs for psychiatric and chronically ill patients. Additional patient services are a Pharmacy, Imaging and Lab. An addition with a procedure center is under design.
