616 Colcord Police Lab

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

The Police Department Laboratories, Water and Wastewater Laboratories are accommodated in an existing masonry and wood structure that previously served as a parking garage for the City of Oklahoma City. The existing two-story structure at 616 Colcord Drive was remodeled while existing tenants remained in the building.

Though built at a time before sustainability rating systems, the project utilized and ice-storage system which not only saved the City in operating costs, but also saved energy.

The Police Department Laboratories are located on the second floor and have five fume exhaust hoods. Police forensic chemists conduct serology, DNA and electrophoresis testing on evidence specimens. Special requirements include a “hot” lab for tests involving radioactive isotopes, a cold room, and a specially vented evidence inspection room.

The Water and Wastewater facility contains laboratories for Atomic Absorption, Mass Spectroscopy, Toxicology, Bacteriology, Volatile and Non-Volatile Organic Chemistry as well as general wet chemistry laboratories.
