The Austin Energy Green Building Program strives to provide a better built environment for all in the community. The program awards points under six general categories, including: Materials, Energy, Health and Safety, Water, Community, and Site.
Under the Multi-Family Rating, Longhorn Village achieved a 3-Star rating (of five). "I promised that we would get at least one star," said George Stacy, senior project manager of CRSA, the developer of Longhorn Village. "We qualified for three. We met with Austin Energy every two or three months throughout the 18 months of construction and made modifications. I'm very excited about it. We are the first if not only retirement community to earn this rating."
Residents will enjoy a relaxing life-style in a well-lit, open, campus-like setting laced with natural landscaping. With 85% of parking located under the buildings, paving is minimized. The City of Austin has its own Energy Code which was exceeded. Recycled content materials were used in the project and job site recycling and materials reuse was embraced during construction. Existing native vegetation preserved on site and new plantings comply with City of Austin Xeriscape brochure list. Water conservation was a huge contributing factor to the project's success. Pervious paving used, and the project exceeds the Land Development Code for pervious cover by over 5%. Impervious cover is at least 5% less than City of Austin standards.
Longhorn Village includes 41 Villas, 173 Independent Living, 20 Assisted Living, 16 Dementia Care beds, and 60 Nursing Care units, plus facilities for a variety of recreational and social amenities.
